Bitchin' Kitchen

Upon first walking in to the kitchen, I was immediately disappointed with what we had to work with, but at the same time, also optimistic with its potential. It looked like a kitchen belonging to a bachelor, stockbroker from Hoboken, NJ with its black granite countertop and backsplash. This combined with the eighties-style rounded cabinets and golden paint made me feel uninspired to cook (and I graduated from culinary school). It did have high ceilings and new stainless appliances, as well as lovely moldings and a bright and sunny window, looking out at the backyard, so it wasn't all bad. We didn't have any budget for renovation, so I had to make it work. This room was the second order of business, after the front door and I had a color picked and the walls painted within two days of occupancy. I went with the lovely Wickham Grey by Benjamin Moore (also in the basement) and all I have to say is, WOW, best 60 bucks I've ever spent.

Here's the before.

During the painting.

After. I removed the enormous ceiling fan and installed this amazing pendant from LightsUP that I got on designpublic.com!
